White Porcelain Matcha Bowl (Chawan)
Designed exclusively for MEP by ceramic artist Zhang Yunfei, this white porcelain matcha bowl brings together contemporary form and traditional tea sensibility in a calm, sculptural presence.
Its softly rounded body and gently shaped pouring lip follow the movement of the hand, making whisking and serving feel natural and unforced.
With a generous 550 ml capacity, it is suited not only for matcha preparation, but also for sharing, slow sipping, and everyday moments of pause.
Hand-thrown and glazed individually, each bowl carries subtle variations in curve and surface — quiet traces of the artist’s hand, and of clay shaped in real time.

Ceramic Artist · Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, China
Based in Jingdezhen, the world’s porcelain capital, Zhang Yunfei's practice explores ceramics as both cultural memory and a quiet continuation of life.Working primarily with high-white porcelain clay, he follows a philosophy of “nine parts shaping, one part refining,” allowing the nature of the clay to guide the final form.
His works carry a gentle vitality — shaped through thousands of subtle negotiations between hand, wheel, and fragile material.
Each piece is a small dance between hands and earth, holding its own free expression.
