Yunfei Zhang
Ceramic Artist
Yunfei Zhang is a ceramic artist based in Jingdezhen, China, where porcelain has been shaped by hands and fire for centuries.
Trained in ceramic art and sculpture, his practice moves gently between traditional techniques and contemporary sensibilities, always guided by close attention to material and quiet changes of form. He works primarily with high-white porcelain clay, approaching each vessel as a conversation rather than a command.
For Yunfei, ceramics are not only objects, but a way of understanding the world through touch —
where curves, thickness, and surface carry traces of time, repetition, and patient negotiation with fragile material.
Working with Yunfei feels less like commissioning a series, and more like continuing a shared sensitivity toward stillness, material, and the beauty of slow, attentive making.

At MEP, Yunfei’s works are presented through artist edition ritual series —
porcelain vessels designed for daily use, shaped through quiet, material-led making.
“In Stillness” 素白 Series
A collection of white porcelain ritual vessels defined by restraint and calm form.
Soft curves, subtle thickness, and unadorned surfaces allow space, light, and use to become part of the work.
“Ling Que” 灵雀 Series
Named after the image of a quiet, fleeting bird, the Ling Que series introduces gentle movement into porcelain form. Celadon glaze and flowing brown slip brushwork move across the surface, creating feather-like traces that are never repeated.
Each series includes:
Artist Edition Matcha Bowls (Chawan)
Artist Edition Whisk Holders (Chasen Stands)
Each piece carries spontaneous variations shaped by brush, glaze, and firing —
a reminder that ritual, like movement, is never exactly the same twice.
Together, these series reflect Yunfei’s approach to ceramics —
not as objects of display, but as vessels that continue to change through touch, time, and everyday practice.
