Study in Stillness and Transformation, presented by Anggrek and the mep, brings together two artists whose practices explore change, materiality, and attentive ways of seeing. Approaching these themes from distinct perspectives, Christine Loh and Dimitrina Sevova invite viewers to consider stillness not as the absence of movement, but as a space from which transformation emerges.

Christine Loh, a Malaysian-born Irish artist living and working between Zurich and Dublin, explores transformation, inner stillness, and human connection through symbolic and intuitive forms. Working in evolving series, Loh moves between themes of resilience and flow in her Koi works, contemplative stillness in Buddha (Rest), and a more instinctive, playful visual language in recent series such as Bloomingand Panda. Guided by a process of unlearning, her practice prioritises emotional immediacy over technical rigidity, allowing meaning to emerge through intuition, reflection, and feeling.

Dimitrina Sevova, a Swiss-Bulgarian artist living and working in Zurich, operates between painting and sculpture, using clay and natural materials to investigate fragility, transformation, and materiality. She expands painting beyond the canvas into sculptural and spatial forms, often creating site-specific installations that combine ceramics with found objects, drawing, and video. Her work bridges scientific inquiry and imagination, shifting between representation and abstraction to evoke poetic, sometimes uncanny relationships between nature, technology, and matter. At its core, her practice seeks to reconnect thinking and making by dissolving boundaries between art and craft, and between culture and nature.
